EVEREST
PANORAMA TREK
This trek offers for the real sights and sounds of Nepal to the world's
highest mountain, the most marvelous views in
the world within few days and the best known Nepali
ethnic group in the world living high in the mountains
of eastern Nepal, the Sherpas.
Starting with a spectacular flight from Kathmandu
to Lukla, we then trek through the heart of Sherpa
country. The Sherpas are probably the best-known
Nepalese ethnic group, living high in the mountains
of eastern and central Nepal, particularly in
the Solu Khumbu region near Mount Everest. They
originally settled in the area from Tibet some
500 years ago and were probably nomadic herders
until the introduction of the potato in the middle
of the 19th century. The relative increase in
wealth that this new crop created allowed them
to settle in permanent villages and to create
a number of Buddhist monasteries known as gompas.
This century the Sherpas have become synonymous
with mountaineering and trekking. Not all sherpas
- the word with a small “s” describes
a trek guide or mountaineer - are Sherpas, but
many are and they have won world-wide fame for
their skill, hardiness and loyalty.
