SIMIKOT,
MT. KAILASH & MANSAROVAR
Mount Kailash; supremely sacred mountains, described
in ancient texts as a fantastic ‘world pillar’
84,000 miles high reaching from heaven to hell
and around which all else revolves. Below it gleams
the deep blue of Lake Mansarovar, where a ritual
bath will deliver a pilgrim to Brahma’s
paradise and a drink of its waters relinquishes
the sins of a hundred lifetimes. Our trip follows
the old pilgrimage and trade route over the Himalayan
range from Western Nepal into the Tibetan plateau
beginning first with a flight to Simikot and heads
west towards Yari before crossing the 4450m Nara
La Pass. Then our overland journey to Mount Kailash
and Lake Mansarovar begins before returning to
Kathmandu via Zhangmu making the great trip Nepal/Tibet
circuit.
