The Villages of Helambu

This trail explores the area immediately north of Kathmandu. Helambu lies within the cirque of ridge line surrounding the Melamchi river. Buddhist farming Sherpas inhabit this picturesque area punctuated by mani walls, prayer flags, chortens and a gompa at Tarkeghyang. This is a good trek for those wanting a diversity of culture and fine, if more distant, mountain views. This is an excellent underrated route and is especially good in the cooler months of December through February.
